After season 2 of The Rookie, Tim’s ex-girlfriend Rachel disappeared from the series without a trace. Season 7 now solves the mystery of how the relationship ended.
Before Tim and Lucy became the ultimate power couple at Chenford in The Rookie, they had both been in relationships before they met. One of Tim’s early partners (Eric Winter) was Rachel (Jasmine Mathews), who moved to New York for her dream job in the season 2 finale and wanted to start a long-distance relationship with Tim. However, Rachel then disappeared from the show without a trace and was never mentioned again by Tim. Tim was portrayed as single from season 3 onwards, before he started dating Ashley and later Lucy.
Five years later, episode 3 of season 7 finally solves the mystery surrounding Tim and Rachel’s relationship.
The Rookie season 7 brings back Tim’s ex-girlfriend Rachel: What happened to their relationship after season 2
In the episode titled Out of Pocket, Rachel turns up at Midwilshire Station to see her good friend Lucy (Melissa O’Neil). She explains that her life in New York has fallen apart and she now has no job and no place to live. Lucy, of course, immediately takes her old friend in. This also sets the scene for an encounter between Rachel and Tim, which starts out quite unpleasantly. We learn that Rachel simply ghosted Tim back then. Now the two finally get a chance to heal past wounds.
The episode suggests that Rachel will continue to play a role in season 7, as she finds emotional support in Lucy. At the same time, the two reflect on the end of Tim and Lucy’s relationship, which Rachel is dismayed to hear about. Whether Rachel will be given a storyline of her own in further episodes, beyond her role as a good friend, remains to be seen.
