Our TV tip today, despite the medieval setting, focuses less on historical accuracy and instead delivers a spectacle that should please fantasy fans in particular.
There seems to be no genre that Nicolas Cage shies away from. With The Last Templar, the actor dons a suit of armor and presents us with a period film with fantasy elements that seems over-the-top and unintentionally comical, but is still highly entertaining. Today, The Last Templar is on TV.
The Last Templar on TV: A wild adventure with knights and witches
The Templar Knights Behmen (Cage) and Felson (Ron Perlman) have fought for the church for years, but can no longer close their eyes to the atrocities. They turn their backs on the battlefield and find their homeland ravaged by the plague. A young witch (Claire Foy) is said to be to blame for the plague. Behmen and Felson are ordered to take her to a monastery where the curse is to be broken. Soon, inexplicable events begin to occur on their long journey, and the plague is not the worst thing to fear.
Fantasy spectacle The Last Templar: “A mixed bag
”Director Dominic Sena sets a fast pace; the dull moments are brightened up by the unexpectedly likeable team of Cage and Perlman,” according to a film review on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, it only received a critic score of just 11 percent, which is mainly due to the wild mix of genres, in which Sena doesn’t really seem to know how he wants to tell it, and so The Last Templar Knight seems mainly unintentionally funny.
Our community is much more generous, with over five thousand users giving it an average rating of 5.4 out of 10. That’s how this fantasy adventure even made it into our top 20 best knight movies.
In fact, the film enjoys a certain cult status among genre fans. Visually, the fantasy elements have a lot to offer and so The Last Templar can definitely entertain.
