The world of Stranger Things was expanded in late 2023 by the play The First Shadow in London. Now the play is set to premiere on Broadway.
Before Stranger Things comes to an end with the final season 5 on Netflix later this year, fans can already look forward to a slightly different addition to the series. The First Shadow, which premiered in London’s West End in December 2023, will make its Broadway debut in April.
Stranger Things play The First Shadow is coming to Broadway
The start for the Stranger Things play The First Shadow on Broadway in New York City was confirmed by Netflix itself for April 22, 2025. The first performances are scheduled for March 28, 2025. The play is scheduled to run there until further notice, after having been shown in London’s West End for several months.

While the British and American productions are of the same play, individual details are said to differ. Fans are currently speculating that the US version could contain new clues that will be important for the season 5 finale on Netflix. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow tells the story of the Netflix series
The First Shadow begins in 1959 and tells the story of the Netflix hit, exploring the connection between the small town of Hawkins and the Upside Down. When young Henry Creel and his family arrive in Hawkins, he finds that a fresh start is not as easy as he thought. Because the shadows of the past threaten to invade the present. Meanwhile, Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldanado and Bob Newby face everyday challenges.
The play premiered in London’s West End on December 14, 2023 and was largely well received by critics and audiences. The play was nominated for numerous awards and won, among others, the WhatsOnStageAward for Best New Play and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.
Louis McCarntey, who already played the role of young Henry Creel in London’s West End, will also play him on Broadway. In addition, Alison Jaye as Joyce Maldanado and Burke Swanson as Jim Hopper, among others, will be appearing in New York.
When is Stranger Things season 5 coming?
The fifth season of Stranger Things is scheduled to arrive on Netflix this year, as a first teaser has already revealed. The final season will consist of eight episodes, each of which, according to Maya Hawke, feels like a separate movie.
