The actor you see above is famous for his versatile roles, but often found himself as a gangster in front of the camera. It all started in the romantic comedy I, Natalie in 1969. Do you already have an idea who can be recognized in the picture above?

A little tip before the solution: He received an Oscar nomination for his third film role in The Godfather.

Best Friend, Gangster, Lieutenant Colonel: The Many Lives of Al Pacino

Al Pacino (Scarface, The Irishman) was born in New York and left school at 17 to become an actor – a plan that, as we know, worked out.

After initial roles in smaller theaters, Al Pacino was discovered by film producer Martin Bergman, who gave him his first film role in I, Natalie. Here he played Tony, a close friend of the main character, who stands by her and brings a certain lightness to the story.

An encounter with director Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now) was to prove decisive for Al Pacino’s further career. Coppola cast Pacino at the age of 31 as Michael Corleone, one of the main characters in the 1972 cult film The Godfather.

This role was a breakthrough for the actor. In 1973, he was nominated for an Oscar for the first time for his performance in The Godfather. In 1992, Pacino portrayed the blinded Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in Scent of a Woman and finally won the coveted Oscar.

Over the decades, Pacino established himself as a character actor. He continues to demonstrate his versatility in over fifty film and television appearances to date. Most recently, he appeared as the artist in the 2024 biopic.
