The Rookie season 7 comes to an end this week. And the big Chenford question that is currently making The Rookie so exciting must finally be answered.
Chenford has been the topic of discussion among The Rookie fans for several seasons. The couple’s name, derived from the two police officers Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winters), was created before their first kiss in The Rookie season 4 and was the brainchild of Tim’s actor Eric Winters himself.
However, the road to happiness is a rocky one for Tim and Lucy. O’Neil and Winters play their romantic attraction so brilliantly and humorously that even in the current season 7, there is enough chemistry for the writers to bring Chenford to the forefront. But at some point, the back and forth has to end: Will Tim and Lucy finally get together?
The finale of The Rookie season 7 must clarify Chenford’s relationship status
Season 7 of The Rookie also had a few other strong ideas and new characters. The series made a bold and sad decision for John and Bailey. The two new rookies, Seth and Miles, turned out to be great additions to the seventh season. Chenford’s on-again, off-again relationship was still the highlight and, of all the stories and characters, the one that most encouraged viewers to tune in.
This is how episode 17 gets fans excited for the finale
In the penultimate episode of The Rookie season 7, called Mutiny and the Bounty, Lucy Chen waits for the results of her sergeant exam. Apart from being an excellent step for her career, passing the exam would give her the same rank as Tim. And if he were no longer her superior, the two could finally be together. They hint at this repeatedly in season 7 – and at the end of the episode, she actually gets a positive result.
Another surprise is that there really is a sergeant position available at the police station. The negative surprise: she has to work the night shift. To be continued… So after Tim and Lucy (and me and millions of other fans) have been eagerly awaiting them finally getting together, their completely opposite biorhythms are sure to be a problem.
Tim and Lucy have to get together at the end of season 7
“The chemistry is electric,” writes one fan on Reddit, perfectly describing the appeal of Chenford. O’Neil and Winters are not only great and lovable actors, they also have the perfect, suspenseful script and incredible chemistry with each other. A lot has happened since their first kiss at the end of season 4. Now it’s time to redeem fans and Chenford.
The opposite work schedules of the two, with day and night shifts, could be a nice compromise: Yes, they’re finally together. And yes, it’s still complicated.

Podcast tip for The Rookie & Co: The worst series deaths
The Rookie and many other series have completely thrown us off track with terrible character deaths. In our podcast, we discuss seven of them and their devastating impact on their series:
The series deaths discussed range from The Walking Dead to The Rookie and Yellowstone to the current seasons of The Last of Us and 9-1-1. While some series narratives were improved by the shock effect, there are also character departures that were (rightly) harshly criticized by fans.
