Marvel villain, my ass: MCU reappearance after 14 years reveals new insight

by Dennis

The Super Soldier serum had kept many people safe for years, after all, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) would never have become Captain America without the miracle drug. While it was able to give the not-so-innocent boy from Brooklyn a much better life, the serum ruined another man’s future forever. When the drug was administered to soldier Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) to stop the Hulk (Edward Norton) in The Incredible Hulk, he didn’t get a body of steel. Instead, he transformed into a lizard-like monster that is seen as a danger not only by Bruce Banner, but also by the rest of the world.

While 14 years ago viewers were clearly on the Hulk’s side and wished that the future Avenger would defeat the other green monster, the new Disney+ series “She-Hulk: The Lawyer” gives the situation a fresh perspective. When Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) meets her new client for the first time, he explains his perspective to her:

“I was an extremely decorated soldier at the time […] and then they sent me on this mission to take out a threat and the whole time I was convinced I was the good guy. I thought maybe I could become like Captain America or something like that. Now that very threat – her cousin – is being hailed all over the world as some fucking hero and I’m stuck here. How is that fair, Jen? “

New Marvel hero? Will Abomination be one of the good guys?

After being imprisoned for years, Emil aka Abomination has embarked on a spiritual journey that allows him to suppress his alter ego. There is not much left of both the dangerous monster and the aggressive soldier. Viewers may not see the reformed villain shoulder-to-shoulder with the Avengers any time soon, but rather the possibility of a new career with the Thunderbolts. The Marvel anti-heroes are officially introduced in Phase 5 of the MCU.

In the comics, the Raft prison doesn’t just house Emil Blonsky. It also serves as the base of the Thunderbolts. After all, villains like Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) are also imprisoned here. Whether Emil Blonsky would actually be ready to fight against actual evil as a member of the Thunderbolts will possibly become clear in the course of the first season of “She-Hulk”. But maybe he’ll just turn his back on that life completely and instead enjoy himself on the sprawling estate his seven soulmates have purchased for him. Hopefully, when episode 3 of “She-Hulk” launches on Disney+ on 1 September, fans will know more.
