Next star in the MCU sky: Marvel fans celebrate new character – even without superpowers

by Han

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been enriched by another series since 18 August: “She-Hulk: The Lawyer”. Unlike its predecessors, however, the new show on Disney+ is much more human. The main character, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), can transform into a Hulk just like her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), but this does not make her a member of the Avengers. Instead, she prefers to continue her job as a lawyer, representing all matters in the superlaw department of her new firm.

Her new position may lead to numerous special guest appearances, but before fans can enjoy superheroes from the Marvel world, another character with no special skills steals the show: Jen’s new colleague Pug (Josh Segarra). Instead of glaring at her on her first day, he introduces himself in a friendly manner and presents her with a gift basket containing a card pointing to the best office toilet for big business. His warm and honest nature not only seems to go down well with Jen aka She-Hulk and her friend and legal assistant Nikki (Ginger Gonzaga), but fans have also immediately taken the new character to their hearts and are spreading the fan love via Twitter:

Most Marvel fans are obviously already big fans of Josh Segarra’s portrayal of the lovable Pug. However, some others still know the actor from another comic series and therefore still have a little difficulty trusting the new MCU character.

This is how you know Pug from “She-Hulk: The Lawyer “

If you think Jennifer’s new colleague Augustus “Pug” Pugliese is a familiar face, you might also be interested in another series based on a comic book. For Josh Segarra embodied the villain Prometheus alias Adrian Chase in the series “Arrow”. Chase started out as a friend of the title character, but developed into a dangerous villain after the murder of his father. He also played a less friendly prison guard in the Netflix hit “Orange Is the New Black”. So it’s no wonder that some “She-Hulk” fans distrust him. Segarra didn’t only play the role of the bad guy in his career, though.

In the comedy series “The Other Two” (streaming now on Amazon Prime Video), he plays Lance, the somewhat wacky but always loving (ex-)boyfriend of the main character Brooke (Heléne Yorke). Anyone who has read the “She-Hulk” comics will already have guessed that Pug is more along the lines of Lance and that there is no secret creep hiding behind the character – provided the series sticks to the original. Fans will hopefully see more of him when the third episode starts on Disney+ on 1 September.
