Trailer for “The Imperfects” shows a “One Piece” star becoming a brutal beast

Fans of “The Umbrella Academy” will soon have to say goodbye, because the Netflix superhero series will be cancelled after the upcoming season 4. With “The Imperfects”, however, a possible replacement will be released in just a few days (on 8 September), which definitely has the potential to become a hit. Above you can see the trailer for the series, in which three teenagers get monstrous superpowers. Iñaki Godoy, who will play the main role of Monkey D. Ruffy in the upcoming “One Piece” live-action series, is also in the cast. So anime fans can take the chance to see the Ruffy actor in action.

THIS IS WHAT “THE IMPERFECTS” IS ABOUT ON NETFLIX

Caution, “The Imperfects” is not a Marvel adaptation, even though there is actually a superhero grouping in the Marvel comics called the same thing. Instead, the Netflix series revolves around three teenagers Abbi (Rhianna Jagpal), Tilda (Morgan Taylor Campbell) and Juan (Iñaki Godoy), who gain superpowers through an experiment, but don’t actually want them, as they cause plenty of problems.

Tilda thus becomes a banshee, i.e. a banshee whose shrill voice has a destructive effect. Juan transforms into a chupacabra in the style of a werewolf and Abbi becomes a succubus, a demon whose pheromones have a strong effect on other people.

To reverse their transformations, they seek out the one responsible: scientist Dr. Alex Sarkov (Rhys Nicholson), who knows no morals when it comes to advancing the evolution of humanity in his favour.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH “THE BOYS”?

In the description of the trailer on YouTube, Netflix itself writes: “For fans of quirky superheroine teams ready to take on the world. Think ‘The Umbrella Academy’ meets ‘The Boys’.” The only question is whether the person who wrote this description has actually seen “The Boys”.

In any case, we couldn’t see much resemblance to the Amazon hit in the trailer, except that both are superhero*in series. “The Boys” is characterised above all by the satirical aspect, as well as the insane level of brutality. We see neither of these in “The Imperfects”.

The comparison with “The Umbrella Academy” might be more appropriate, but the British series “Misfits”, in which five juvenile delinquents suddenly receive supernatural powers through a lightning strike, also comes to mind when watching the trailer.

“The Imperfects” starts on Netflix on 8 September 2022. The first season consists of ten episodes that will be released in one go.
