“She-Hulk”: Who is Megan Thee Stallion and how does she fare in the MCU?

by Dennis

In episode 3 of the Marvel series “She-Hulk” on Disney+, the currently very successful US rapper Megan Thee Stallion makes a guest appearance. We explain to you what’s behind the appearance and why we’ll probably be seeing more of her.

In episode 3 of “She-Hulk: The Lawyer” on Disney+, a case comes up where Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) is called to testify in court. Jennifer’s colleague has fallen for a shapeshifter from Asgard posing as Megan Thee Stallion, and is now suing her for spending a huge sum to impress her. Later, we actually see the real Megan Thee Stallion sitting in the courtroom, and in the episode’s end credits scene she even becomes Jennifer Walters’ client.

But who is Megan Thee Stallion, really? If you don’t follow current chart music, nor are you into the rap scene, then you might have heard of her for the first time in the current episode “She-Hulk” and wondered if this is a real person or a fictional Marvel character (after all, the name Megan Thee Stallion could also describe a superhero).

But Megan Thee Stallion really does exist. The US rapper is one of the shooting stars of the last few years, not only winning numerous industry awards (including three Grammys!), but even being named by Time Magazine to its list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2020. But for those of you who still don’t know Megan Thee Stallion, you can find out more about the rapper here. Below, we’ll also explain why we’ll probably be seeing her in “She-Hulk” more times.

THIS IS MEGAN THEE STALLION

Megan Thee Stallion is currently one of the most successful US female rappers. Yet she hasn’t been in the business that long. The 27-year-old drew attention to herself early on with freestyle raps on Instagram and has been building an ever-growing fan base since 2013, which ensured that she already reached an audience of millions with her first mixtapes and singles. She really arrived in the music business in 2018 when she signed a deal with the label 300 Entertainment and conquered the US charts with the mixtape “Fever”, the EP “Suga” and the debut album “Good News” released on the label.

This album also featured a new version of her song “Savage”, which now also features superstar Beyoncé. The “Savage” remix not only became her first number one hit, but also earned Megan Thee Stallion two Grammys in the categories Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance (she also won the Grammy for Best New Artist in the same year). She is also very well known for her collaboration with Cardi B on their single “WAP”, which reached number 1 on the charts in several countries.

In addition, Megan Thee Stallion has won countless other awards in the course of her still young career, such as four American Music Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards. She recently released her second album “Traumazine”.

Besides her successful music career, Megan Thee Stallion now wants to try her hand at the film and series business. “She-Hulk” is probably just the beginning, as the rapper explained in an interview with The Cut that she is inspired by colleagues like Queen Latifah or Ice Cube, who also gained a foothold in Hollywood as rap stars. She also has ambitions to try her hand not only as an actress, but also as a director and producer. But also in the MCU?

HOW DOES MEGAN THEE STALLION CONTINUE IN “SHE-HULK” & THE MCU?

Earlier this year, information was leaked on the website StuntPOC (via The Direct) that a stuntwoman had been hired for Megan Thee Stallion for the Disney Plus series. So far, however, we have not seen the rapper in any scene that could be described as a stunt – and no, the twerking in the post-credit scene hardly passes for a stunt, especially since Megan Thee Stallion herself is probably better at it than any stuntwoman.

So there is reason to suspect that there will also be an action scene with Megan Thee Stallion in the later course of “She-Hulk”. Since she is one of Jennifer Walters’ first clients, it would be no problem to make her a regular guest in the Marvel series. This is also supported by the fact that there were rumours in the run-up to her appearance that she would be in several episodes.

However, we don’t believe Megan Thee Stallion will have any role in the MCU beyond “She-Hulk”. After all, she’s not really playing a Marvel character, just herself. We think it’s more likely that the rap superstar will now take on other Hollywood projects and be seen more often in acting roles from now on. “She-Hulk”-replenishment will be back next

Thursday: Episode 4 starts on Disney+ on September 8, 2022.
