Film plot and background
Bananas, slapstick, evil deeds – the Minions are back in a new adventure. Of course, the yellow dungarees cause hilarious chaos again.
Since time immemorial, the Minions have existed for one purpose only: to serve the best of all villains. Mischievous, anarchic (and quite cute, by the way), the Minions have secretly determined world history and served alongside Dracula or Napoleon, for example. Until Dracula and Napoleon died by strange coincidences. But finally the Minions have found their final master – the top villain, the best villain ever: Gru (who sometimes likes to cook jam). Since then they have been having wild adventures with Gru, his wife Lucy and their adopted daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes.
The second part shows us how Gru became the villain we already know in his adult version – and what role his little yellow helpers played in the process. Already as a teenager, he harboured the desire to join the “Mean Six”. But they didn’t want to take little Gru seriously until he stole a precious jewel from them…
“Minions 2” – Theatrical Release
The Minions are back! After the bright yellow Hallodris in “I – Simply Incorrigible 3” have instigated the rebellion against Gru, they now go on a villainous mission with his twin brother Dru. New adventures with Gru and the Minions are on the way: the sequel to the little yellow monsters should hit German cinemas on 9 July 2020. The corona virus is throwing a spanner in the works of this cinema release. The new start date is 30 June 2022.
“Minions 2” backgrounds
Originally intended as chaotic sidekicks to “I – Simply Incorrigible” main character Gru, the Minions soon became a real fan favourite. The yellow chaotic characters brought the animation studio Illumination its greatest success to date. The “Minions” spin-off grossed around 1.16 billion dollars in 2015. The first “Minions” part is currently the eleventh most successful film of all time. To build on the success, Illumination and Universal have now announced an official start date for “Minions 2”.
After Gru recently said goodbye to being a villain, it was not certain for a long time in which direction the “Minions” sequel would go. In the meantime we know that there will be a time jump into Gru’s youth. Besides Bob, Stuart and Kevin, we will also meet new Minions, such as Otto.
If there is a reunion with old acquaintances on the screen, there was a change in the management behind it. While the first spin-off was directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, Coffin will now fully concentrate on giving the Minions his voice. Kyle Balda, meanwhile, will be assisted by Brad Ableson, who worked in the animation department of “The Simpsons”, among others.
