The animated film tells the story of Karlchen the rabbit, who has a great adventure on his birthday, in a way that is suitable for children.
A big day is coming up for the young rabbit Karlchen: he is turning five and is already looking forward to having a picnic at the lake with his parents and sister. But the plans have to be cancelled at the last minute because Karlchen’s little sister Klara falls ill. When his parents take her to the doctor, Karlchen is left alone. This is really not how he had imagined his birthday.
Without further ado, he decides to go to his grandma’s house with his teddy bear and his cuddly toys. When he takes a wrong turn on the way and ends up in the forest, he is lucky that his sandbox friend Monika has followed him with her dog Bello. Together, the two of them experience a great adventure in the forest, have to prove some courage and finally find their way out of the thicket. Fortunately, everything has a happy ending. At the big birthday party in Grandma’s garden, there is carrot cake and great presents.

The children’s film is based on the book series of the same name by Rotraut Susanne Berner, which is primarily aimed at children of pre-school age. For over 20 years, the little rabbit has been experiencing small and big adventures with his family and friends in the book. Now it’s time for the big performance on the big screen. With a running time of 75 minutes, an animated film has been created that will not only delight the youngest audience.
The audience hears the voices of Andrea Sawatzki, Ulrich Matthes and Carmen-Maja Antoni as well as Milosch Kopetzki as Karlchen and Rosa Blankenburg as Monika. The film was made in Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. On 7 July 2022, there will be a big birthday party in the cinema when “Karlchen – Das große Geburtstagsabenteuer” opens in cinemas.
