New on Disney+: The latest Marvel blockbuster only 2 months (!) after

by Mike

Recently, “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” was released surprisingly quickly. And now the latest MCU adventure is also finding its way to Disney’s in-house streaming service for all subscribers just two months after its cinema release: “Thor 4: Love And Thunder” can be accessed on Disney+ from today, 8 September 2022. So if you missed the wild space trip from Oscar winner and “Thor 3” director Taika Waititi (“Jojo Rabbit”) in the cinema, you can now catch up on it in the comfort of your own home.

“Thor 4: Love And Thunder” at Disney+

In “Thor 4” the titular God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth), after his adventures with the Guardians Of The Galaxy, has to deal with the sinister Gorr (Christian Bale), who after a heavy blow of fate has made it his mission to finish off all the gods. In his fight against the slayer of the gods, Thor receives support from New Asgard’s Queen Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and his ex-girlfriend Jane (Natalie Portman), who has meanwhile developed superhuman powers herself.

“Love And Thunder” was not as convincing as its direct predecessor, as Waititi finally buries the more tragic tones of his story under a good portion of self-mockery and lunacy, but there is always fun to be had with the 29th MCU film.

And for all those who can’t get enough of Thor and Chris Hemsworth, Disney+ today also delivers a making-of of “Thor 4” as well as the documentary “Shark Beach”, in which the Marvel star goes on a shark exploration tour in his native Australia.

“PINOCCHIO”-REAL-LIFE FILM ADAPTATION WITH TOM HANKS

The wave of live-action remakes of Disney animated classics continues unabated. Before we can look forward to new interpretations of “Arielle” and “Peter Pan”, among others, the remake of the groundbreaking animated film “Pinocchio”, which will be released directly on Disney+, is now in the pipeline.
In fact, there have already been all kinds of live-action adaptations of the famous story about the wooden puppet that comes to life and dreams of being a real boy, after all it goes back to a children’s book from the 19th century. Disney itself, however, is now leaning very heavily on its own animated version of the adventure in the renewed adaptation – and that is also one of the film’s big problems…

The new “Pinocchio” from directorial great Robert Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump”, “Back to the Future”) simply repeats most of the original without really adding anything meaningful to it or even approaching its magic.

Those who are curious to experience the well-known story in a new guise and with the always worth seeing Tom Hanks as Pinocchio’s “father” Geppetto can risk a look. All others should rather (once again) reach for the original from 1940, which can of course also be found on Disney+.

ALSO NEW: MORE “CARS” AND OBI-WAN KENOB

“Thor 4” and “Pinocchio” are undoubtedly the biggest new launches on Disney+. But the streaming service also has a few potential highlights up its sleeve today, which we’ve summarised for you below:

  • Obi-Wan Kenobi: Return of the Jedi”: Making-Of for the “Star Wars” series “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, in which Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, among others, reflect on their return to the franchise

  • “Cars On The Road “: Series spin-off to the popular animated film series “Cars”, in which Lightning McQueen goes on a road trip across the USA with his friend Mater off the racetrack

  • “Welcome to the Club “: New “Simpsons” short film in which Lisa’s attempt to become a princess takes a surprising turn

  • “Wedding Season“: Black-humoured thriller series in which “Alita” star Rosa Salazar becomes the focus of a police investigation after a bloodbath at her wedding and then goes on the run with her affair to get to the bottom of it herself

  • Growing Up“: Documentary series developed by Marvel star Brie Larson, which takes a look at growing up and the challenges associated with it through the very personal stories of various protagonists between the ages of 18 and 22

With these colourful new additions to the Disney+ programme, there should be something for everyone. And if you’re also interested in what else you can look forward to on Disney+ in the rest of September, take a look at our monthly overview:
