The Kangaroo Conspiracy: continuation of the hilarious everyday stories of the small-time artist Marc-Uwe Kling and the communist kangaroo.
Film plot and background
Continuation of the hilarious everyday stories of the small-time artist Marc-Uwe Kling and the communist kangaroo.
From podcast to bestseller to cinema success: Marc-Uwe Kling created a contemporary phenomenon with “The Kangaroo Chronicles”, which quickly became a cult with its everyday stories and social criticism. In 2020, the first cinema film was released, in which Kling lent his voice to the animated kangaroo and his alter ego was portrayed in the film by Dimitrij Schaad.
Despite the onset of the corona pandemic and nationwide cinema closures in March 2020, “The Kangaroo Chronicles” catapulted to the top of the cinema charts shortly before the first lockdown. Meanwhile, work is diligently underway on the sequel, which, however, will not be directly based on the second book in the series “The Kangaroo Manifesto”, as the rough plot reveals.
“The Kangaroo Conspiracy” – plot
Marc-Uwe (Dimitrij Schaad) once looked a little puzzled when a kangaroo from across the street suddenly moved in with him from one day to the next. With his help and after many attempts, Marc-Uwe was finally able to convince his crush Maria (Rosalie Thomass) to go out with him.
However, the first date between Maria and Marc-Uwe turns out to be a disaster, in which the kangaroo is not entirely uninvolved. The small artist senses a second chance at love in Maria’s mother. If Marc-Uwe succeeds in bringing her views back down to earth, he could also score points with Maria. The problem: Maria’s mother is a conspiracy fanatic and climate denier. Nevertheless, Marc-Uwe spares no expense or effort and undertakes a road trip with kangaroo in tow. On the way, they have to hold their own against the conspiracy guru Adam Krieger (Benno Fürmann), who is not shy about pushing his views.
“The Kangaroo Chronicles 2” – background, cast, theatrical release
With “The Kangaroo Conspiracy”, the second part of the kangaroo series comes to the cinema, which already sets itself apart from the originals “The Kangaroo Chronicles”, “The Kangaroo Manifesto” and “The Kangaroo Revelation”. There, Marc-Uwe and the kangaroo declared war on the evil neighbour, the penguin. The penguin did show his face at the end of the first film in Berlin, but whether he will come up with a plan similar to the one in the books cannot be predicted at the moment.
Meanwhile, a small premiere is taking place behind the scenes. Marc-Uwe Kling is not only acting as screenwriter, but is also taking a seat in the director’s chair for the first time. He is supported by Jan Cronauer, who helped him with the screenplay.
The second cinema adventure of the popular Kreuzberg flat-sharing community is expected to hit cinemas in 2022. The exact release date for “The Kangaroo Conspiracy” is 25 August 2022. There will also be a reunion with the neighbourhood residents Hertha (Carmen Maja Antoni), Otto Von (Tim Seyfi) and Friedrich Wilhelm (Adnan Maral). Book fans can also look forward to Krapotke (Nils Hohenhövel).
