In order to retire, swordsman Li Mu Bai gives his sword to his companion Yu Shu Lien, who keeps it in the house of a high-ranking politician and hopes to finally confess her love to Mu Bai. But then the sword is stolen by a masked figure who turns out to be the daughter of a high-ranking politician. A wild chase begins, in the course of which Mu Bai encounters his nemesis.
Li Mu Bai, a great martial arts warrior of his time, wants to rest after years of fighting. That is why he hands over his legendary sword, called “Green Destiny”, to the fighter Yu Shu Lien, with whom he is linked by a secret, unhappy love. Lien guards the weapon housed in a friend’s house and meets Jen, the governor’s daughter, there. The latter envies Lien, as she dreams of the free warrior life and of love. Instead, she is supposed to enter into an arranged marriage. Then the sword disappears…
