Apple TV+ has dropped the official Shantaram trailer for its upcoming series adaptation of Gregory David Roberts’ bestselling novel of the same name. The drama will be available for streaming on October 14 with the first three episodes, followed by one new episode weekly every Friday through December 16.
The video features Charlie Hunnam as he portrays a fugitive who runs away to Bombay in hopes of starting a new life and finding the redemption he’s seeking for his past mistakes. However, sooner or later, trouble has a way of finding him.
Shantaram is co-created, written, and executive produced by Steve Lightfoot, who also serves as showrunner. Joining Hunnam are Shubham Saraf, Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi, Luke Pasqualino, Antonia Desplat, Alyy Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Vincent Perez, David Field, Alexander Siddig, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Elham Ehsas, Rachel Kamath, Matthew Joseph, and Shiv Palekar.
“The series follows a fugitive named Lin Ford (Hunnam) looking to get lost in vibrant and chaotic 1980s Bombay,” reads the synopsis. “Alone in an unfamiliar city, Lin struggles to avoid the trouble he’s running from in this new place. After falling for an enigmatic and intriguing woman named Karla, Lin must choose between freedom or love and the complications that come with it.”
Shantaram is executive produced by co-creator Eric Warren Singer, Andrea Barron, Nicole Clemens, Steve Golin, and Justin Kurzel, along with director Bharat Nalluri. It is produced for Apple by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content’s AC Studios.
