The first trailer for the “Percy Jackson” series gives hope to fans: New

Percy Jackson has already had two adventures on the big screen – but neither the fans nor the “Percy Jackson” author himself loved them very much. The series “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” aims to make things better.

These are good times for fantasy fans! Currently, “Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon” on Sky and WOW and “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power” on Amazon Prime are two absolute fantasy high flyers. And Disney+ is not remaining idle either, and is launching a series full of magic and magical creatures – though it will take a while here. The first season of the novel adaptation “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” is not expected to start until early 2024.

The first teaser trailer, now released as part of Disney’s D23 trade show, now gives fans of Rick Riordan’s books hope that the series will be a proper take on the mega-popular book empires. Not only the fans were not satisfied with the two films, “Percy Jackson – Thieves in Olympus” and “Percy Jackson 2 – Under the Spell of the Cyclops” with Logan Lerman – book author Riordan himself downright hates these films. No wonder the film series was not continued, only two of the five volumes were made into films.

Now, in the series for Disney+, up-and-coming talent Walker Scobell (“The Adam Project”) takes on the role of the 12-year-old demigod Percy Jackson, son of a human mother and the god Poseidon. And in the first teaser trailer for “Percy Jackson And The Olympians”, not only does much of Camp Halfblood look exactly as it is described in the novels, in Percy’s voice-over many passages are taken directly from the opening of the first volume “Thieves on Olympus”, as e.g. user @mlordcasshole on TikTok makes clear.

“PERCY JACKSON” NOVELIST COLLABORATES ON SERIES

The teaser confirms what Rick Riordan has repeatedly assured: the Disney series is to stick very closely to the original. Riordan himself is probably the best judge of that – after all, he is working on the series himself and has not only worked out the story arc for the first season, but has also already put together ideas for possible further seasons with his colleague Jon Steinberg.

So if it should be a quality feature of the series for fans of the books that it is faithful to the original, then they should now really have hopes of a successful “Percy Jackson” series on Disney+.
