Fabulous tragicomedy describing a couple’s turbulent love story through the eyes of their young son.
When Georges (Romain Duris) and Camille (Virginie Efira) met one day, it was love at first sight for him. Camille took a little time to get involved with the writer, but once she did, they spend their nights partying boisterously and lead a love affair far from convention. Their mail is never opened and their house parties sometimes number 300 guests.
When their son Gary (Solan Machado Graner) is born, the young lad only knows the imaginative as well as crazy world of his parents. Between parties, the song “Mr Bojangles” in the version by Nina Simone, the young pupil may rub his peers the wrong way, but he doesn’t want to miss this world. However, the young family’s fanciful life threatens to collapse like a house of cards when Camille’s dark side comes to the fore.
“Waiting for Bojangles” – background, cast, cinema release
The swing song “Mr Bojangles” was once Jerry Jeff Walker released in 1970 and has since been directed by a number of performers – such as Sammy Davis Jr. and Robbie Williams. Based on the swing song, author Olivier Bourdeaut wrote his debut novel “Waiting for Bojangles” in 2016, which became an attention-getter within a few months. The film adaptation was not long in coming.
Director Régis Roinsard (“Mademoiselle Populaire”) set about adapting the film and worked on the screenplay together with Romain Compingt. The two well-known French stars Romain Duris (“Eiffel in Love”) and Virginie Efira (“To the Limit”) can be seen in the leading roles. Other roles are taken by newcomer Solan Machado Graner and Grégory Gadebois (“All’s Well That Ended”).
Waiting for Bojangles” opens in cinemas in Germany on 4 August 2022.
