New action on Netflix: An Oscar winner takes on the role of a female Liam.

In a story reminiscent of the Liam Neeson smash “96 Hours – Taken”, Allison Janney vigorously mixes up the most diverse villains in “Lou” as a lone fighter. The action thriller is available from today exclusively on Netflix.

Who Lou (Allison Janney), who lives alone in seclusion in the woods, is, her neighbour (Jurnee Smollett) does not know, but nevertheless the mysterious woman is her only hope, to whom she turns for help when her young daughter is kidnapped. And when Lou brutally tears apart the first bad guy on the search shortly afterwards, it becomes apparent that Lou really can help. But the loner also seems to know more than she’s telling about the plans of those behind the kidnapping….

Since Liam Neeson’s success with “96 Hours – Taken”, several stars who are actually known for character roles have tried their hand as tough action loners. In “Lou” we now see Allison Janney, who won an Oscar for “I, Tonya”. She adds another page to her acting CV, after we already know her as a sitcom star from “Mom”.

“LOU” – BY A GERMAN DIRECTOR

By the way, the Netflix action thriller “Lou” was directed by a German filmmaker. Anna Foerster studied cinematography at the Film Academy in Ludwigsburg, where she caught the eye of Roland Emmerich. He brought her into his team and she became, among other things, the director of the so-called second unit, did the camera work and worked on the visual effects. She continued to attract attention with series directing work, especially on “Criminal Minds” and “Outlander”, and then made her cinema directing debut in 2016 with “Underworld 5: Blood Wars”.

At that time, she already caught the eye of “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” director J.J. Abrams, who brought her on board to direct the action thriller “Lou”, which he produced. After the project was delayed for a while and Foerster directed other series episodes for “Jessica Jones”, “Carnival Row” and “Westworld” in the meantime, there was also finally the green light in 2021. Now “Lou” is available on Netflix. You can stream it there starting today …

“LOU”: NOT THE ONLY ACTION SEQUEL ON NETFLIX

If you’re into action, there’s another title besides “Lou” that’s newly available on Netflix today that we also highly recommend. In “Athena”, director Romain Gavras depicts an escalating war between youths and the police. It is phenomenally staged and also incredibly intense. The first few minutes in particular are probably the best start to a film in 2022.
