Hulu has released the official Rosaline trailer for 20th Century Studios’ upcoming romantic comedy starring Golden Globe nominee Kaitlyn Dever as Romeo’s titular bitter ex-girlfriend. The film will be available for streaming on October 14.
The video introduces Dever’s Rosaline as she feels heartbroken over Romeo and her cousin Juliet’s new relationship, especially after Romeo just recently confessed his love for her. Determined to get Romeo back, Rosaline comes up with a plan that would break apart the star-crossed lovers.
Described as a comedic retelling of the famous Shakespearean tale, Rosaline is directed by Karen Maine from a screenplay by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, based on the novel “When You Were Mine” by Rebecca Serle. The film stars Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Kyle Allen, and Sean Teale with Minnie Driver and Bradley Whitford.
“The film is a fresh and comedic twist on Shakespeare’s classic love story Romeo & Juliet, told from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Dever), who also happens to be Romeo’s recent love interest,” reads the synopsis. “Heartbroken when Romeo (Allen) meets Juliet (Merced) and begins to pursue her, Rosaline schemes to foil the famous romance and win back her guy.”
Rosaline is produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine, with Dever, Neustadter, Weber, Whitney Brown, Emily Morris, and Becca Edelman serving as executive producers.
