Yet she can’t guess that overnight Clifford will turn into a giant dog and cause a mighty commotion in New York City and Emily and Casey’s family. Of course, this big red dog named Clifford is hard to miss. Peter Tieran (Tony Hale), boss of a genetics company, wants Clifford for himself so he can make other animals that big too. Only together can Emily and Uncle Casey stand up to his company and, thanks to Clifford, learn the value of acceptance and unconditional love.
“Clifford the big red dog” – background, cinema release, cast
First published in 1963, “Clifford the Big Red Dog” delighted the youngest children first as a children’s book, and later in animated television series and video games. Author Normam Bridwell drew inspiration for the dog from his wife’s imaginary childhood friend, while Emily was named after his daughter.
The first ideas for the live-action adaptation of “Clifford the Big Red Dog” already existed in 2012, back then Universal still held the rights. Paramount Pictures has been working on the live-action film about the popular dog since 2016.
With stars such as Darby Camp (“The Christmas Chronicle”), Jack Whitehall (“Jungle Cruise”), John Cleese (“The Knights of the Coconut”) and Tony Hale (“Veep”), the children’s film is excellently cast right down to the supporting roles. Filming already took place in New York City in 2019. However, due to the corona pandemic, the cinema release was delayed again and again. On 2 December 2021, “Clifford the Big Red Dog” will finally be released in German cinemas.
