Netflix has finally dropped the first Shadow and Bone Season 2 sneak peek clip for the popular fantasy series, which ended its filming last June. The second season will feature the return of Jesse Mei Li, Ben Barnes, and Archie Renaux.
The new installment will also include the addition of new cast members in the form of Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat) as Tolya Yul-Bataar, Anna Leong Brophy (Traces) as Tamar Kir-Bataar, Patrick Gibson (The OA) as Nikolai Lantsov, and Jack Wolfe (The Witcher) as Wylan Hendriks.
Shadow and Bone is created and executive produced by Oscar nominee Eric Heisserer, who also serves as the writer and showrunner. It stars Jesse Mei Li as Alina, Archie Renaux as Mal, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa, Kit Young as Jesper, Ben Barnes as Darkling, and Zoë Wanamaker as Baghra.
“Based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, the series is set in a war-torn world and centers on orphan and lowly soldier Alina Starkov as she unleashes an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free from the monstrous threat of Shadow Fold, though finds herself torn from everything she knows to train as part of the Grisha, an elite army of magical soldiers,” reads the synopsis. “Struggling to get a grasp on her powers while avoiding a crew of charismatic criminals out to get her, Alina learns that allies and enemies might be one and the same and that nothing in the lavish world is what it seems.”
Additional cast includes Sujaya Dasgupta, Danielle Galligan, Daisy Head, Simon Sears, Calahan Skogman, Kevin Eldon, Julian Kostov, Luke Pasqualino, Jasmine Blackborow, and Gabrielle Broos.
The Shadow and Bone series hails from 21 Laps Entertainment, with Bardugo, 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry, Pouya Shahbazian, and Lee Toland Krieger sets as executive producers.
