Presque: Road movie in which a funeral director and an amateur philosopher with disabilities are united by a special friendship.
Film plot and background
Roadmovie in which a funeral director and an amateur philosopher with a disability share a special friendship.
Igor (Alexandre Jollien) can’t really let anything get him down that quickly. Because of his disability he is often alone, but thanks to his job as a bicycle courier for organic vegetables he can’t complain. But he would like to have friends. In contrast to this is Louis (Bernard Campan), who has subordinated many years of his life to his funeral business, which has caused his private life to suffer. When Louis hits Igor on his bicycle, he feels terribly sorry for him. Igor, on the other hand, sees an opportunity: he wants Louis to be his friend.
When Louis sets off on a long business trip in his hearse with the corpse, Igor unceremoniously hides in the boot and rides along. On the way to the funeral, the two talk not only about their views on life, but also about what it means to be happy. At the end of the road, they realise not only that they are not so different, but also that friendships can weld people together.
“Happiness on a scale of 1 to 10” – background, cast, theatrical release
The friendship between the two main actors Bernard Campan (“A Bag of Marbles”) and Alexandre Jollien has lasted almost 20 years. Jollien, who was born with cerebral palsy, has always been fascinated by philosophy, studying and teaching philosophy in Dublin. When he saw Campan in a television programme, who was equally knowledgeable about the ancient Greek philosophers, he did not hesitate to contact him. The result was a friendship that is now the basis for the road movie “Happiness on a Scale of 1 to 10”.
The duo is not only together in front of the camera, but also co-directs the film. Campan wrote the script together with Marine Autexier and Helen Gremillon. In Germany, the road movie “Happiness on a Scale of 1 to 10” will be released in cinemas on 2 June 2022.
