With “Dahmer”, Netflix has not only convinced the critics, but also made one of the best new starts ever. So it’s fitting that the next mini-series, “Jeffrey Dahmer: Self-Portrait of a Serial Killer”, will be released next week.
With “Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer” Netflix has delivered the next mega hit: In total, the miniseries was streamed an incredible 196.2 million hours within its first week. Although “Stranger Things” season 4 (286.8 million hours) and “House of Money” season 5 (201.9 million) were even more successful, these were already long established brands. For a new series like “Dahmer”, these figures are an absolute record.
The project developed by Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story”) around the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (played here by Evan Peters) once again impressively proves how popular true-crime formats still are. Although there are already various documentary and fictional treatises on Dahmer, people just can’t seem to get enough of dealing with mass murderers. But this also calls for critical voices that definitely make you think, as you can read in this FILMSTARTS article:
AFTER “DAHMER – MONSTER” COMES “SELF-PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER “
After “Dahmer – Monster”, those who are still interested (and nervous!) about Jeffrey Dahmer, his psyche and his gruesome crimes, will be offered more on Netflix on 7 October 2022. That’s when the documentary mini-series “Jeffrey Dahmer: Self-Portrait of a Serial Killer” starts. The three episodes consist primarily of interviews in which the serial killer gives viewers a look inside himself.
If the title sounds familiar, there’s a good reason for that. “Self-Portrait of a Serial Killer is an extremely successful true-crime series on Netflix, in which the most famous killers and sex offenders of all time are put through their paces. Before Jeffrey Dahmer, there were already editions about Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy. Whether you will learn anything new about the man who killed 17 people in the cruellest way after “Dahmer – Monster”, you can find out on 7 October. The first trailer has already been released:
