Currently Kaitlyn Dever can be seen in the cinema as the daughter of George Clooney and Julia Roberts in “Ticket to Paradise”. She will soon be starring herself in “Rosalinde”, inspired by Shakespeare’s masterpiece. Here is the trailer:
Connoisseurs of William Shakespeare’s original stage play “Romeo and Juliet” know it: a character named “Rosalinde” has no speaking or otherwise active part in it. However, she is mentioned at the beginning of the text as a beauty pined for by the male half of the title couple.
And because Romeo desperately wants to see Rosalinde again, but is denied a glimpse of her, it is her cousin Juliet who catches his eye in the first place. This is the beginning of what is perhaps the most famous love story in the history of literature and the stage, in which Rosalinde officially no longer appears …
But US author Rebecca Serle obviously did not want to settle for that. In 2012, she wrote the novel “When You Were Mine” about the young woman who was first dearly loved, then spurned in favour of her cousin. “Yes, God, Yes” director Karen Maine has now turned the book into a star-studded and, as the trailer suggests, cleverly turbulent film comedy.
The title role is played by “Booksmart” and “Dopesick” star Kaitlyn Dever. Romeo is played by Kyle Allen (“The Path”) and Juliet is portrayed by Isabela Merced (“Suddenly Family”). Also in the cast are well-known mimes such as Sean Teale from the historical series “Reign”, Minnie Driver (“Good Will Hunting”) and the always entertaining Bradley Whitford (“Get Out”) and Christopher McDonald (“Thelma & Louise”).

But millions of people on this earth know the equally romantic and tragic story of “Romeo and Juliet”. But how did the whole affair unfold from the point of view of Juliet’s cousin Rosalinde (Kaitlyn Dever)? After all, it was she who was originally virtually adored by Romeo (Kyle Allen).
We meet Rosalinde when she too is head over heels in love with Romeo. The young woman is sure that he is the one for her and that they are meant for each other. However, it takes a long time before the two kiss for the first time. When it finally happens, everything seems perfect.
But then Rosalinde’s cousin and former best friend Julia (Isabela Merced) moves back to town. Apparently without really meaning to, she wins Romeo’s heart in no time. Rosalinde is devastated and contemplates how she could break up their young happiness again.
But that’s not all: Rosalinde learns of Juliet’s dangerous idea to fake her suicide so they can elope with each other. Can Rosalinde stop her and perhaps win her crush over in the end?
