For many German households, the Christmas film classic “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” is a fixed part of the Christmas programme. The fairytale film from 1973 became a cult film shortly after its first release, and the wintry setting in Moritzburg Castle is still a popular tourist destination today.
In 2021, Norway will release a new film version of the popular fairy tale by Božena Němcová and the modified Cinderella fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. This time, Astrid Smeplass and Cengiz Al embody the main roles of the maid Cinderella and the prince.
“Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” 2021 – plot
There is always plenty for Cinderella (Astrid Smeplass) to do on her stepmother’s farm. Since her father’s death, she has been bullied by her stepmother and stepsister in one go. But thanks to three magical hazelnuts, her luck could soon turn.
While archery in the snowy woods, she meets the prince (Cengiz Al) on the hunt, who does not yet know her true identity. Their second encounter will take place at the royal ball. The king (Thorbjørn Harr) demands that his son find a wife soon and has all the ladies of the court of marriageable age arrive. An extravagant dress and a bit of magic could help Cinderella and the prince to find great love.

Just before Christmas 2021, the Norwegian remake of “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” will be released on Amazon Prime Video’s streaming flat rate. You can watch the new Christmas film there from 20 December 2021.
In Norway, leading actress Astrid Smeplass became famous in 2013 through the casting show “Pop Idol”. Other roles are played by stars such as Cengiz Al, Thorbjorn Harr, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Bjørn Sundquist, “Game of Thrones” star Kristofer Hivju.
