The trailer for “See How They Run” lets us spontaneously place the British crime farce somewhere between Agatha Christie and Woody Allen. In addition to a few successful gags, the surprisingly high number of familiar faces in the cast is particularly striking.
“See How They Run” is set in 1950s London. A gruesome murder has taken place in the West End, which is littered with world-famous theatre buildings. The victim is the American film producer Leo Köpernick (Adrien Brody), who wanted to adapt a celebrated play by playwright Mervyn Cocker-Norris (David Oyelowo) for Hollywood.
The disillusioned Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) and the somewhat overzealous police novice Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) take over the investigation. They soon discover that not only Cocker-Norris, who publicly quarrels with Koepernick, but also a long list of other people had a motive to wish the man dead.
Against this background, the interrogation of the suspects naturally takes up a lot of time. However, when a second body is found a short time later, for which the same perpetrator clearly seems to be responsible, the uneven duo must hurry with their investigations before more deaths occur.
“See How They Run” will be released in cinemas nationwide on 27 October 2022.
I can’t help but feel that See How They Run, a splendid comedy about a murder behind-the-scenes of an Agatha Christie play, is going to get overlooked by a lot of people. It’s in Australian cinemas now. https://t.co/pWMS8PY0Yz
