Family comedy starring Andy Garcia as a grumpy father who walks his daughter down the aisle.
When married couple Billy (Andy Garcia) and Ingrid (Gloria Estefan) receive an unexpected visit from their eldest daughter Sofia (Adria Arjona), they actually want to confess some less pleasant news: They are about to get divorced.
But the daughter has a completely different surprise in store: she is newly engaged and wants to marry her Adan (Diego Boneta) as soon as possible. For proud Billy, who is already shocked by the circumstances of the engagement – she has asked him – it is clear that he wants to contribute a large sum to the wedding celebration. In return, he also wants a say in the festivities, which are often snatched out of his hands. While his own marital problems do their bit to add to the stressful atmosphere, the couple want to move to Mexico after the marriage.
When Billy meets the groom’s father, Hernan (Pedro Damián), their ideas of the perfect wedding for the offspring soon collide. Both fathers have their own traditions they want to uphold and often clash during the preparation phase. If the path to the wedding is already marred by so many problems, how will the actual marriage go?
“Father of the Bride” – background, cast, cinema release
Based on the novel of the same name by Edward Streeter, two film adaptations entitled “Father of the Bride” starring both Spencer Tracy and Steve Martin were released back in 1950 and 1991. For the 2022 remake, Andy Garcia (“The Godfather” trilogy) follows in the footsteps of the two iconic actors.
The romantic comedy also graces stars such as Gloria Estefan (“Music of the Heart”), Adria Arjona (“Morbius”), Isabela Merced (“Sicario 2”), Diego Boneta (“Rock of Ages”) as well as Pedro Damián (“Collateral Damage”) and Chloe Fineman (“Big Mouth”).
In the USA, “The Father of the Bride” will be released directly on the US streaming service HBO Max. In Germany, on the other hand, you can marvel at the family comedy in the cinema from 21 July 2022.
