Film plot and background
Thriller starring Oscar Isaac as a former soldier who has since established himself as a poker player.
William Tell (Oscar Isaac) has had to put up with many setbacks. The ex-soldier spent over ten years behind bars and learned how to count cards there. Since his release, he has travelled from city to city, from casino to casino, earning a good bit of money at the country’s poker tables. He always makes sure that he doesn’t earn too much in order to attract negative attention from the casinos.
On his tour, he meets the unassuming Cirk (Tye Sheridan), whom he takes under his wing in order to win the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas with him. But a meeting with the beautiful La Linda (Tiffany Haddish) and a fateful encounter with his former superior Major John Gordo (Willem Dafoe) could thwart his plan. The demons of his past are hard to shake off.
