Marvel fans had to wait a long time for this: Missing “Spider-Man” film is

by Albert

Most MCU films end up on Disney Plus a few months after their theatrical release, but Marvel fans had to wait a long time for the “Spider-Man” titles. As of today, however, “Far From Home” is finally available on Disney’s streaming service three years after its theatrical release.

Marvel fans know the game by now: Whenever a new MCU film is released in theatres, it only takes a few months for it to join all the others on Disney+. There is only one hero who defies this rule: Spider-Man. Because here the rights to the corresponding films lie with Sony and not Disney.

This summer, however, there was a joyful development in the matter: Sony and Disney agreed on a deal so that the Spider-Man films could also be shown on Disney+. In July, the Tobey Maguire trilogy and the two Andrew Garfield films were promptly released on Disney+, but only the first of Tom Holland’s solo adventures: “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. This is now changing: from today, 14 October 2022, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” will finally be available on Disney+ three years after its cinema release.

THIS IS WHAT “SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME “

IS ALL ABOUT.

“Far From Home” is the second “Spider-Man” film in the MCU. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) goes on a school trip across Europe. But while his classmates get to enjoy the excursions to cities like Venice, Berlin and London, Spidey is hired by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to stop monsters made of elements like fire or water that are ravaging the respective cities. To stop them, Spider-Man is supposed to team up with the hero Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). But when it becomes clear what is really behind the attacks, things really get serious for Peter…

WHEN IS “SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME” COMING TO DISNEY+?

After the release of “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, the only thing missing now is “Spider-Man: No Way Home” on Disney+. However, this is currently only available on WOW and Sky Go in the streaming subscription and that will probably remain the case for the time being.

As a rule, major Sony films are first released exclusively on Sky around nine months after their theatrical release, before they end up on Netflix almost two years after their theatrical release. So it could well be another year before “No Way Home” appears on Disney+, but the new Sony-Disney deal means it’s a completely new situation anyway, which is why we’re cautious about making any predictions.
