New this week on Netflix: competition for “Harry Potter”, bloody…

by Dennis

Need a new series to watch on Friday after “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” ends? Netflix has the second season of “Barbarians” ready for you on October 21, 2022 – and much more.

Netflix is once again offering many new series and films to stream in the week from 17 to 23 October 2022. We’ll pick out the best for you and also present what might be particularly worthwhile this week, from the fantasy adventure “The School For Good And Evil” to the battle epic “Barbarians” season 2.

Here are the most interesting new arrivals for you to put on your watchlist – this week, however, there is not a relevant launch on every day. But that can change at any time, just check FILMSTARTS regularly, we’ll inform you about Netflix highlights coming out at short notice

MONDAY: QUIET START TO THE WEEK

On Monday, you can take the opportunity to watch, for example, the absolutely hyped serial killer series “Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer”, if you’re not already one of those who have seen it rise to the top of the Netflix charts.

TUESDAY: TRUE-CRIME

If you’ve been grooving on “Dahmer” then you can move right on to true crime on Netflix. While “Dahmer” about the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (Evan Peters) is an acted series based on true events, the third season of “Unsolved Mysteries” is about true crimes and mysterious incidents in a documentary format.

WEDNESDAY: BESTSELLING ADAPTATION “THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL “

Wednesday is the day fans of young-adult fantasy like “Harry Potter” should be eagerly awaiting. Because Netflix is filming the book series “The School For Good And Evil” by Soman Chainani. If the first film “The School For Good And Evil” by “Ghostbusters” director Paul Feig is a success, an entire film series could follow.

The school here is not called Hogwarts, but it also serves to educate magically gifted beings – or more precisely, young men and women who will later become the evil and good characters in fairy tales. Friends Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie) are also admitted to this school, but end up in different classes – and not in the way they wanted…

Notable stars such as Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Ben Kingsley, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Yeoh are on board in “The School For Good And Evil”, which opens on Netflix on 19 October 2022. In addition, “Shadow And Bone” fans can look forward to Kit Young, who plays Jasper Fahey in the series.

Thriller fans can mark their calendars for Wednesday’s feature film “The Stranger”. Joel Edgerton plays undercover investigator Mark, who strikes up a friendship with a murder suspect (Sean Harris) in order to extract a confession from him. But the men get along so well that Joel finds it increasingly difficult to pursue his plan…

THURSDAY: AND MORE TRUE-CRIME

True-crime series are simply the absolute hit right now, and Netflix knows that too. From Thursday, you can watch the docu-miniseries “Emanuela Orlandi: Disappeared from the Vatican” on the streaming service. It’s about the mysterious disappearance of the 15-year-old daughter of a papal court servant, who didn’t show up at home after a music lesson in 1983 and has been missing ever since.

Friday: “BARBAREN” SEASON 2 & A NEW SERIES WITH ZOE SALDANA

On Friday, the German historical series “Barbaren”, which became an international hit, continues. Fans had to wait two years for season 2 – but for friends of bloody historical carnage there was the “Vikings” spin-off “Vikings: Valhalla” to watch on Netflix in the meantime.

Season 2 of “Barbarians” consists of six episodes in which Ari (Laurence Rupp) and Thusnelda (Jeanne Goursaud) search for new allies after the Varus Battle between the Germanic tribes and the Roman Empire.

“Barbarians” is too bloody for you? Then you should make a note of the romantic miniseries “From Scratch” for the coming weekend. The female lead is played by Zoe Saldana, known from blockbusters like “Avatar” and “Guardians Of The Galaxy”. Saldana stars as a young American woman who goes to Italy to become an artist and falls madly in love with a chef (Eugenio Mastrandrea)…

SAMDAY & SUNDAY: TIME FOR THE WATCHLIST

So far the weekend is still empty, Netflix has not announced any new additions for it. But since series usually start on Netflix on Fridays, that’s not a problem, because that way you’ll always have enough to watch on the weekend – for example “Barbarians”. Or you can catch up on one of the big scandal films of the year: “Blond” with Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe is also available on Netflix.
