Film plot and background

Film adaptation of the young adult book series of the same name about a mismatched magical trio who get to the bottom of the conspiracy surrounding Mayor Ziffer.

What could be worse than being “the new kid” at school? As if Vlad (Aaron Kissov), who has recently moved to Crailsfelden with his father Barnabas (Rick Kavanian), didn’t have enough to worry about, he has to throw up on his first day at school at the sight of a drop of blood – how embarrassing! A vampire who can’t stand the sight of blood. But that puts him in good company and he quickly makes friends with Faye (Johanna Schraml), a fairy with a fear of flying, and Wolf (Arsseni Bultmann), a werewolf with an allergy to animal hair.

Together, the three form a magical trio, the Wolf Gang, which faces the notorious Pig Gang time and time again. But Crailsfelden and its inhabitants are soon threatened by much greater mischief than the school hooligans could cause. Mayor Louis Ziffer (Christian Berkel) and his secretary (Sonja Gerhardt) are up to something – can the Wolf Gang uncover the conspiracy in time?

“The Wolf Gang” – Background

Following the successful books and audio books by Wolfgang Hohlbein, the long-awaited film adaptation of the adventures of the magical trio around Wolf, Vlad and Faye will be released in 2020. The film will be directed by Tim Trageser, who has not only made a name for himself with his work on thriller productions, but has also gained experience in children’s films with the production of “Hilfe, ich hab meine Eltern geschrumpft”. The screenplay adaptation comes from Marc Hillefeld, who has so far mainly worked for TV formats such as “ProSieben Märchenstunde” or “Der Bergdoktor”.

We see the young actors Aaron Kissiov (“Liliane Susewind”), Johanna Schraml and Arsseni Bultmann (“Robbie, Tobbi und das Fliewatüüt”) in the leading roles. Experienced German actors and comedians such as Rick Kavanian (“Bullyparade”) and Axel Stein (“Knallharte Jungs”, “Die Goldfische”) were recruited for the adult characters, as well as Sonja Gerhardt (“Ku’damm 56”) and Christian Berkel (“Beat”, “Inglourious Basterds”).

After filming was already completed in 2018, a cinema release was initially planned for autumn 2019. However, fans of the youth book series will now have to wait a little longer, “Die Wolf-Gäng” will be released in German cinemas on 23 January 2020.
