Film plot and background

Comedy starring Otto Waalkes as a magician who gets lost in the modern age and tries to find his way back to the 11th century.

Warlock Catweazle (Otto Waalkes) actually lives in the 11th century. However, a hasty escape forces him to perform a daring spell, which of course goes wrong and inadvertently transports him to the present. Here he must first make friends with the new, highly technological environment. He is helped by teenager Benny (Julius Weckauf), who gives him advice and tries to keep his true identity a secret.

But although Catweazle should actually be happy to have escaped his time, he longs to return to his era. Can he find the right spell for a purposeful return journey, or can he once again rely on his magic?

“Catweazle”- Background and Cast

Already in 2018, Otto Waalkes announced that he was preparing the iconic British “Catweazle” series for a cinema reboot. Two years later, we can already see the finished work in cinemas. Waalkes himself co-wrote the script, as did his trusted director Sven Unterwaldt (“7 Dwarfs”), and Bernd Eilert (involved in countless TV and film productions by and with Otto) and Claudius Pläging (“Pastewka”, “The Carolin Kebekus Show”) were also part of the writing team.

In front of the camera, comedian Waalkes is supported by up-and-coming actor Julius Weckauf, who has already enchanted audiences in “Der Junge muss an die frische Luft” and here plays the schoolboy Benny, who tries to explain modernity to the wizard. Henning Baum (“Der letzte Bulle”, “Jim Knopf und die Wilde 13”), Katja Riemann (“Fack ju Göhte”) and Milan Peschel (“Die Hochzeit”) are also in the cast.

In an interview with kino.de, Otto Waalkes answers ten “For the First Time” questions:
