While Season 5 of “The Crown” launches on Netflix in November 2022, the final season is already filming. The final episodes will be about the Royals’ late 90s – which were full of drama. One of them won’t be shown, though…
70 years Queen Elizabeth II ruled Britain – longer than any other monarch before in British history. She died in September 2022, passing the throne to her son Prince Charles. The Queen has lived to the age of 96 – and has experienced quite a lot in the course of her life…
Exactly this life is shown in the successful and award-winning Netflix series “The Crown” – more or less of course. Because the series is fiction, not a documentary, as the makers of the production have to emphasise anew every season. So the fact that certain events in the lives of the royals are not shown is not entirely new.
In the sixth season of “The Crown” (which is currently still in the works), however, a major catastrophe that shook the life of the British monarchy to the core will be missing: the car accident that led to Lady Diana’s death.
New: Dame Judi Dench demands Netflix place a factual disclaimer on the new series of The Crown “as a mark of respect” to Queen Elizabeth II. Oscar-winning actress launched a blistering attack branding storylines “cruelly unjust” and “crude sensationalism “https://t.co/IrZ25daUaA

Following Charles’ threats to Harry if he publishes his book, I sincerely hope that Harry still presses ahead with it. He owes it to his mother to remind people of how horribly she was treated by Charles and Camilla. The Crown on Netflix will also confirm this. pic.twitter.com/xyYGDvxHtr

THIS IS WHAT LADY DIANA’S DEATH IN SEASON 6 OF “THE CROWN” IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE
Lady Diana was out and about in Paris with her new love, Dodi Al-Fayed, in August 1997, about a year after her divorce from heir to the throne Charles. The two were killed in a serious car accident in the tunnel under the Place de l’Alma. While Al-Fayed died immediately, the Queen of Hearts, as Diana was also known, succumbed to her injuries a few hours later. These scenes are not to be seen in “The Crown”.
According to a statement by Netflix in the British newspaper The Sun, the streaming service will deal with the disaster differently. It literally says: “The exact moment of impact will not be shown”. As insiders explain in an interview with Deadline, the death of the ex-wife of the then Prince (and now King) Charles will nevertheless be a central theme of the season. The chronology of events will be maintained, they say. And the accident is apparently not really left out…
According to Deadline, the car with Diana and Al-Fayed is shown leaving a hotel and being followed by paparazzi. Then it is to continue directly with the aftermath of the disaster: The British ambassador in Paris will contact the Foreign Office and the consequences of the accident will be discussed. We will probably only find out exactly how this will all look when the sixth season is finished.
THIS IS WHAT SEASON 5 OF “THE CROWN” IS ABOUT ON NETFLIX
The sixth season of “The Crown” will not be available on Netflix until the end of 2023 at the earliest. However, viewers won’t have to wait until then for new stories about the British royals. From 9 November 2022, the fifth season of the series will run on the streaming service and should also be very exciting.
The series will focus on the problematic marriage between Lady Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Charles (Dominic West). But it was not only the heir to the throne who divorced his wife. Prince Andrew (James Murray) and Princess Anne (Claudia Harrison), two more of Queen Elisabeth’s children, also separated from their partners. In addition, Diana and Charles’ children William (Senan West) and Harry become teenagers.
