Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: In the sequel to Black Panther, the kingdom of Wakanda will be taken to a new era after Avengers: Endgame.
Film plot and background
With “Black Panther”, Marvel has delivered the surprise hit of 2018. Even in advance sales, Ryan Coogler’s superhero film broke records and ended up as the 9th most successful film worldwide. No wonder Marvel boss Kevin Feige soon announced a sequel. A theatrical release date for “Black Panther 2” has already been set. After being postponed, the film is now scheduled for release in the USA on 11 November 2022, and in Germany on 9 November 2022.
After the surprising death of leading actor Chadwick Boseman at the end of August 2020, it was questionable for a long time how the sequel would be shaped without the title hero. Coogler, Marvel producers and Boseman’s companions decided not to recast the role, but to honour and highlight Chadwick Boseman’s legacy through the wondrous kingdom of Wakanda and its inhabitants in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
“Black Panther 2” – Backgrounds
What’s next for King T’Challa aka Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and the formerly isolated Wakanda? After the sophisticated African kingdom was long sealed off from the rest of the world to guard vibranium, T’Challa lifted the veil at the end of Black Panther. The price was great – T’Challa not only had to unite the feuding tribes. In “Avengers: Infinity War”, Wakanda becomes the main scene of the battles against Thanos. Large parts of the country were devastated in the process.
What specifically awaits us in “Black Panther 2” after the outcome of “Avengers 4: Endgame” is still unclear. There are currently many open questions: Will the Dora Milaje around Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the other tribes recover from the losses of Infinity War? What will happen to T’challa, Shuri (Letitia Wright), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Ramonda (Angela Bassett), M’Baku (Winston Duke) and the other iconic inhabitants of Wakanda after the true identity of the advanced country is revealed to the world? And how will Wakanda protect its greatest treasure, Vibranium, from abuse in the future?
“Black Panther 2” – Cast
Director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler (“Creed – Rocky’s Legacy”) has had to find a new direction for the sequel after the surprising death of Chadwick Boseman due to cancer in August 2020. Instead of recasting the character, the sequel will focus on the other iconic characters in Wakanda.
It is thus certain that there will be a reunion with stars such as Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and also Martin Freeman. It is also certain that with Riri Williams aka Iron Heart, portrayed by Dominique Thorne (“Beale Street”), as well as Namor, portrayed by Tenoch Huerta (“The Forever Purge”), two new, important characters will enter the MCU stage.
