It: Two-part cinema remake of the legendary horror classic “It” based on the bestseller of the same name by Stephen King.
Film plot and background
The tranquil American small town of Derry becomes the scene of unimaginable crimes – children disappear in broad daylight. Only body parts are left behind. What no one suspects: a demonic creature is wreaking havoc in the town’s sewers. Only a few children have ever seen “It” (Bill Skarsgård) – and survived.
To escape the clutches of the bloodthirsty clown Pennywise, friends Stanley Uris (Wyatt Oleff), Richie Tozier (Finn Wolfhard), Mike Hanlon (Chosen Jacobs), Bill Denbrough (Jaeden Lieberher), Beverly Marsh (Sophia Lillis), Eddie Kaspbrak (Jack Dylan Grazer) and Ben Hanscom (Jeremy Ray Taylor) join forces. They are the “Losers’ Club” – together they want to solve the murder cases and hunt down the monster. But Pennywise uses his supernatural abilities to transform himself into his victims’ worst nightmares.

Stephen King’s “It” theatrical release in Germany
After the release date for the horror spectacle has been postponed several times, horror fans can now mark 28 September 2017 firmly in their calendars. That’s when “It” opens in German cinemas. In the USA, the film has received an R-rating, which allays fans’ fears that the remake could turn out to be a mild horror. The FSK in Germany has given “It” an age rating of 16 and up. As director Muschietti has announced, “It” will also be one of the few horror films to be shown in IMAX cinemas – a special honour for the film, and a special treat for fans!
Just like the book and film prequels, the current remake of Stephen King’s “It” will be divided into two parts. The first part tells of the children Pennywise torments. In the second part, the protagonists return as adults to the oh so tranquil small American town of Derry – and experience the horror again. The target release date for “It 2” is spring 2019.
“It” Remake – Background
There are few movie monsters that have burned themselves so deeply into the memories and (night)dreams of their viewers as the legendary horror clown Pennywise – the personification of all your greatest fears. Based on the world-famous book by Stephen King, “It” was first filmed as a TV two-parter in 1990 by Tommy Lee Wallace. At the time, Tim Curry played the sardonically smiling demon, a cast that proved to be downright brilliant in retrospect. The adaptation still enjoys cult status among fans today. Expectations are correspondingly high for the remake by director Andrés Muschietti with Bill Skarsgård (“Destiny – Allegiant”, “Simon – Every Family Has Its Secret”) as Pennywise.
Andrés Muschietti has already proven that he can do horror with the atmospheric horror thriller “Mama”. In it, two girls are haunted by a sinister mother figure. Nevertheless, the “It” remake is a very special production, as the trailer alone proves. It was viewed a whopping 197 million times within 24 hours – and thus set a world record.
In order to cool down the fans, the producers sat down with horror veteran Stephen King himself and organised a first screening of the film. In a public email afterwards, the author announced that he was extremely satisfied with the realisation of his material.
