Looking at the brightly coloured trailer for “Slumberland”, which is littered with massive effects shots, you can assume that DC superstar Jason Momoa had a lot of fun filming the movie. We’ll soon find out whether this is passed on to us viewers.
In “Slumberland” we meet little Nema (Marlow Barkley). The bright eleven-year-old lives a wonderful life with her loving dad (Kyle Chandler) in an old lighthouse, right by the sea. But then one day her father disappears without a trace and without saying goodbye. So Nema has to move to the noisy, dirty city to live with her caring but rather boring uncle (Chris O’Dowd), whom she hardly knows.
Then, in her dreams, the girl discovers a path to a magical realm called Slumberland. There she meets Flip (Jason Momoa), a horned mix of human and lovable monster. Flip claims to know Nema’s father from his days as a robber. Together they would have stolen things from other people’s dreams. The little girl explains to Flip what happened, and the two of them set off together on an adventurous search in the fantastic Slumberland for the one who is so sorely missing …

“Slumberland” launches worldwide and exclusively on the streaming service Netflix on 18 November 2022.
The production by “The Tributes of Panem 2 – 4” director Francis Lawrence is based on the comic strip series “Little Nemo in Slumberland” by author Winsor McCay. The fantasy story was already filmed once in 1989 in the form of the anime “Little Nemo – Adventures in Slumberland”.
THIS IS THE CAST OF “SLUMBERLAND “
The most famous name on the cast list is of course that of Jason Momoa, who advanced to global superstardom thanks to DC’s “Aquaman”. The real lead role, however, is played by the young feature film newcomer Marlow Barkley. Her biggest appearance to date was in the two-season TV sitcom “Single Parents”. Incidentally, from the same day that “Slumberland” starts on Netflix, Barkley can also be seen on Apple TV+ alongside Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell in the Christmas musical “Spirited”.
Other important roles in “Slumberland” are played by Kyle Chandler from “The Wolf Of Wall Street”, Irishman Chris O’Dowd (“The IT Crowd”, “St. Vincent”), India De Beaufort (“Kimi”) and Weruche Opia (“I May Destroy You”).
