Finally new on Netflix: The sequels to one of the biggest

by Tommy

In “Enola Holmes 2”, “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill plunge once again into a turbulent detective adventure on Netflix today. In addition, the hyped mystery series “Manifest” enters its fourth and last season.

“Enola Holmes” was supposed to be released in 2020, but in the end the film was sold to Netflix shortly before completion in the wake of the Corona pandemic. A stroke of luck for the streaming service, as it later turned out, the first film adventure of the younger, but no less smart sister of master detective Sherlock Holmes became one of the most successful Netflix films ever.

So it’s no wonder that the provider was quick to commission a sequel, as there was already enough material, given that the book series on which the young detective is based now comprises a whole eight volumes.

And so, two years later, we are now being served the sequel that many have been eagerly awaiting: “Enola Holmes 2” will be available on Netflix from today, 4 November 2022 – and even outshines its predecessor. While part 1 ran out of steam a little in the second half, the second part, which now seems much more like a unified whole, is “fun from the start and at some point becomes really exciting”, as the FILMSTARTS review of the crime spectacle puts it, in which we gave it a good 3.5 out of 5 stars (the predecessor came in at 3 stars).

THIS IS WHAT “ENOLA HOLMES 2” IS ALL ABOUT

In 1888 London, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) has opened her own detective agency. But the young woman, who is still overshadowed by her famous brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) in the public eye, is not really taken seriously.

Just when Enola is about to quit, she gets the assignment to investigate the disappearance of a match factory worker. What starts out as a simple missing persons case soon leads her into the highest circles of society and onto the trail of a real conspiracy, with which Sherlock’s current case is apparently also connected…

ALSO NEW: “MANIFEST” SEASON

Recently, Netflix has made a lot of headlines again with series being cancelled one after another, most recently even such a popular format as “Fate: The Winx Saga”. But there are still cases in which the streaming service rushes to the rescue of a production that has been cancelled elsewhere, as was the case with “Manifest”. After the US broadcaster NBC pulled the plug on the mystery series after three seasons and despite all kinds of unanswered questions, it experienced a second springtime when it was added to the Netflix catalogue in many parts of the world.

This ultimately even led the provider to commission a fourth and final season itself, which should bring a rounded conclusion to the story about a once lost plane that suddenly reappears after five years without the passengers having aged a single day.

The final season will be released in two parts with ten episodes each. The first half of the fourth “Manifest” season will be released on Netflix today, 4 November 2022, the second half will probably follow at the beginning of 2023, but there is no exact date yet. What is certain, however, is that by then at the latest it will become clear whether the aforementioned passengers will be able to escape their sinister fate, which has meanwhile been prophesied for them all…
