Silent stands the forest: thriller about a remote place in the Bavarian province and its dark past

Plot and background

Anja Grimm (Henriette Confurius) returns to the remote province in the Upper Palatinate Forest, where she last spent a family holiday when she was eight years old, as part of her forestry studies. But this place does not exactly hold positive, nostalgic childhood memories for her, because Anja’s father disappeared without a trace back then. Shortly after her return, a brutal murder takes place and the 28-year-old can’t help but suspect that the perpetrator might also have something to do with her father’s disappearance. But Anja’s suspicions and her investigative research are met with suspicion and hostility from the villagers and even the local police. The village community keeps its dark past hidden and seems to do everything in its power to prevent anyone from uncovering it.

The official trailer promises gripping thrills:

“Silent stands the forest” – background, cast, cinema release

With “Schweigend steht der Wald” Saralisa Volm makes her debut as a feature film director. She previously appeared on screen as an actress (“Bad Boy Lemke”) and is also a producer (“Fikkefuchs”). She also took over the production of “Schweigend steht der Wald”, together with co-producer Ingo Fliess (“Wackersdorf”). With her first feature film, Volm creates an atmospherically dense and gripping thriller about dealing with guilt. The story itself is based on the critically acclaimed novel of the same name by Wolfram Fleischhauer, who also wrote the script for the screen adaptation. The film also impresses with a renowned cast. Henriette Confurius (“Tribes of Europa”) can be seen in the role of forestry student Anja Grimm. Noah Saavedra (“Egon Schiele – Tod und Mädchen”), August Zirner (“Wackersdorf”), Robert Stadlober (“Mackie Messer – Brecht’s Threepenny Film”) and Johanna Bittenbinder (“Servus Baby”) were in front of the camera in other roles.

“Schweigend steht der Wald” will be shown in German cinemas from 27 October 2022.
