That was fast: “Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva” was only released in German cinemas in September 2022, and now the fantasy actioner is already available on Disney Plus. Find out what you can expect in the superhero spectacle here.

Of course, everyone knows the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the action spectacles from DC. But have you ever heard of the Astraverse? No? Then let us enlighten you – because Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man and Co. are by no means the only superheroes and heroines who cavort in the film world.

The Astraverse actioner “Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva”, the first part of a planned superhero trilogy, opened in German cinemas on 9 September 2022. Less than two months later, you can now stream the fantasy adventure with a Disney+ subscription, at no extra cost.

In “Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva” superhero action meets Bollywood magic. The Indian cinema spectacle is about the so-called Astras, weapons of tremendous energy that are fed by the various elements – and can be controlled by a kind of superhero.

THIS IS WHAT “BRAHMĀSTRA: PART ONE – SHIVA “

IS ALL ABOUT.

One such superhero is DJ Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor), but at first he has no idea. But then the man who grew up as an orphan discovers that he has pyrokinetic powers and can exercise power over fire – he has an Astra. Now he not only wants to learn more about his origins, but must also fight against evil. For the strongest power among the Astras, the Brahmāstra, which has the power to destroy the world, is in danger.

Isha (Alia Bhatt), with whom Shiva has fallen madly in love, is at his side. Also starring: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan as scientist Mohan Bhargav, Nagarjuna Akkineni as archaeologist Anish Shetty, Deepika Padukone as Amrita and Amitabh Bachchan as the Guru.

In the film review by Variety, the lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are said to have a lot of charm and style that jumps from the screen to the audience and grabs them by the heart. Overall, however, the international (or rather Western) reviews are mixed – on Metacritic, the first part of the Astraverse saga scores 57 out of a possible 100 points.

The sequel “Brahmāstra: Part Two – Dev”, also directed by Ayan Mukherjee, is scheduled for release in 2025. In addition to the core film trilogy, spin-offs and a streaming series are also said to be planned.

Addition from 7 November: On Disney+, the film, which was mainly shot in Hindi, is currently only available in the English dubbed version. German subtitles are selectable.
