Bisang seoneon: South Korean disaster action film about an aeroplane assassination, starring Song Kang-ho.

Plot and background

When Sergeant Koo In-ho (Song Kang-ho) follows up a tip about a young man threatening to terrorise a plane, he discovers that the suspect is already on board a flight. To the policeman’s dismay, it is flight number KI501 bound for Hawaii, on which his wife is also on board. Another passenger is Jae-hyuk (Lee Byung-hun), who makes the journey for the sake of his daughter’s health, despite his great fear of flying. Shortly after take-off, one of the passengers dies in a mysterious and agonising manner. Panic breaks out in the cabin and on land, too, investigators and relatives are in turmoil. On the ground, Sergeant Koo In-ho, along with Minister Sook-hee (Jeon Do-yeon) and her crisis team, do everything they can to land the plane safely and save his wife, while Jae-hyuk sees his worst fears fulfilled and a fight to the death begins for him and the other passengers.

“Emergency Declaration”- background, cast, cinema release

In aviation, an emergency declaration is the code for an unconditional landing. The pilot issues this when the aircraft is exposed to a potential disaster and normal onward travel is not possible. Screenwriter and director Han Jae-rim (“The King”) creates a highly suspenseful thriller with “Emergency Declaration”.

The desperate people in the face of the catastrophe are portrayed by a renowned cast. Song Kang-ho (“Parasite”) tries to avert disaster as the experienced police detective Sergeant Koo In-ho. Lee Byung-hun (“The Magnificent Seven”) and the multi-award-winning Jeon Do-yeon (“Secret Sunshine”) can be seen in other roles.

“Emergency Declaration” celebrated its world premiere at the 2021 Cannes International Film Festival and will be released in German cinemas from 10 November 2022.
