Netflix wants to go one step further in 2023 and rely on live streaming technology. It has now been announced that comedian Chris Rock will be the first person to claim this for the streaming service.
Livestreams from YouTube are something we are now widely accustomed to (also from our FILMSTARTS channel). Weekly live events have also become standard on Amazon Prime Video, although these are mostly football broadcasts. Netflix now also wants to jump on the livestream bandwagon and will launch a global streaming event in 2023, at which comedian and actor Chris Rock will perform.
This means that Chris Rock, who most recently starred in “Saw: Spiral” but was the talk of the town this year mainly due to his Oscar slap of Will Smith, will enjoy the privilege of being the first artist ever to use the live streaming technology for Netflix. Already, it has been promised that Rock will speak more about the scandal-ridden Oscar experience on Netflix.
The collaboration between Chris Rock and Netflix is nothing new, by the way. Rock and the streaming service already made common cause for the special “Tamborine” in 2018. Robbie Praw, Netflix’s head of stand-up and comedy formats, commented on this: “We are thrilled that the whole world can experience a Chris Rock comedy event live and be part of the Netflix story. This will be an unforgettable moment and we are so honoured that Chris is carrying this torch. “
