Armageddon Time: Coming-of-age story loosely based on director James Gray’s youth in 1980s New York.
Plot and background
New York in the 1980s: In order to attend the public school Kew-Forest School in the New York borough of Queens, a considerable sum of money has to be paid in fees. But not all students feel comfortable there. This could be because Fred Trump, the notorious real estate agent, is a member of the school’s board. His son Donald Trump went to school there years ago.
While the Graff family fights for the fulfilment of their American dream, it is up to student Paul (Banks Repeta) and his new friend Johnny (Jaylin Webb) to fight for equality at their school.

“Times of upheaval” – cast, background, cinema release
Starring Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables”), Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”) and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”), director James Gray (“Ad Astra”) tells what is arguably the most personal film of his career. “Times of Upheaval” is loosely based on his own experiences in New York in the 1980s, when the Trump family were key decision-makers at his public school.
The film was supposed to be shot as early as 2020, but had to be cast with other stars due to the corona pandemic. So we were supposed to see Cate Blanchett (“Carol”), Robert De Niro (“Taxi Driver”), Oscar Isaac (“Moon Knight”) and Donald Sutherland (“The Pillars of the Earth”).
The young cast includes Michael Banks Repeta (“The Devil all the Time”), Dane West (“The Truth about Santa Claus”), Jaylin Webb (“Till”) and the two newcomers Ryan Sell and Jacob Mackinnon.
The theatrical release of “Times of Upheaval” is on 24 November 2022. Previously, the coming-of-age drama premiered in competition at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and competed for the Palme d’Or. For director James Gray, it is the fifth entry in the Cannes competition.
