Latte Hedgehog and the Magic Water Stone: Animal animated adventure about the brave hedgehog lady Latte and squirrel Tjum who set off to the Bear King to restore water to the forest.
Plot and background
Water is running out – it’s been far too long since the last rain, streams and lakes are drying up. The forest dwellers are starting to get nervous, and now of all times hedgehog girl Latte comes along and accidentally destroys the last water supplies. A wise raven joins the crisis council and prophesies that the water can only flow again when the magic water stone is back in place. But the stone has been stolen and is now with the bear king Bantu – is the fate of the forest dwellers already sealed?
While most other animals see little hope, brave hedgehog lady Latte seizes the chance to prove her mettle. Together with squirrel Tjum, she sets off on an adventurous journey to the bear forest. Already on the way there, many dangers await the little forest dwellers, but Latte and Tjum don’t let that stop them. They have to get to Bantu and bring the water stone back to its original place!
“Latte Hedgehog and the magic water stone” – Backgrounds
Based on the children’s book of the same name by Finnish author Sebastian Lybeck, directing duo Regina Welker and Nina Wels bring the loving story about a brave lady hedgehog to the big screen. While Welker is making her feature film debut with “Latte Igel”, Wels already has films like “Der kleine Drache Kokosnuss” and “Lissi und der wilde Kaiser” on her CV. Martin Behnke (“Dark”) and Andrea Deppert are responsible for the screenplay adaptation.
Both visually and in terms of content, the film is convincing, the narrative is exciting and fast-paced, but always remains appropriate for children. Topics such as water scarcity, the sensitive forest ecosystem, belonging and friendship are presented in an entertaining and understandable way. The film promises animation fun for the whole family and encourages discussion about nature and environmental problems, which even the little ones are confronted with in everyday life nowadays, even after the film. For this and other reasons, the German Film and Media Rating has given “Latte Igel” the “rating especially valuable”.
“Latte Igel und der magische Wasserstein” opens in German cinemas on Christmas Day, 25 December 2019, and the FSK has issued an age rating of zero years and above.
