The Bunker Game: Italian horror thriller about a LARP team that falls victim to a perfidious game in a bunker
Plot and background
Live Action Role-Play (LARP) is a type of role-playing game in which participants physically act out scenarios, usually using costumes and props. In “The Bunker Game”, for example, LARP actress Laura (Gaia Weiss) and her boyfriend Harry (Mark Ryder) play the survivors of a nuclear war, locked up in an underground bunker near Rome. But when a series of inexplicable accidents occur during one of the games, the 25-year-old and her team break off the LARP to get to the bottom of the mysterious incidents. But when the game leader Greg (Lorenzo Richelmy) suddenly disappears without a trace and there are even the first deaths in the team, the remaining actors realise that they have fallen into a trap without noticing. As puppets in a perfidious game, the actors fight a battle for mere survival and in the process penetrate deeper and deeper into the eerie bunker complex.

“The Bunker Game” – Cast, background, cinema release
The Italian director and cinematographer Roberto Zazzara makes his feature film debut with the claustrophobic horror thriller “The Bunker Game”. The idea for the film is based on the director’s own experiences. Zazzara himself took part in a seven-day live-action role-play, which was set in the 1950s and took place in a bunker. Fortunately, the filmmaker was spared horrific events like those experienced by the players in The Bunker Game. Nevertheless, Zazzara was inspired to capture the oppressive atmosphere of the bunker and the fear he felt during the LARP through a special story.
In the main roles, Gaia Weiss (“Marie Antoinette”), Lorenzo Richelmy (“Marco Polo”) and Mark Ryder (“Borgia”) try with all their might to find a way out of the gloomy walls.
“The Bunker Game” can be seen in German cinemas from 17 November 2022.
