The Christmas Grinch is at it again: in 2018, the Grinch rampages across the big screen as a wonderful 3D animation. In the German version, by the way, the Grinch is dubbed by Otto Waalkes. In this country, “The Grinch” will be released in cinemas on 29 November 2018. The Christmas adventure is released for the whole family!
“The Grinch” – Backgrounds
Based on the cute children’s book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by American author Theodor Seuss Geisel (also known as Dr. Seuss), “The Grinch” is about a real grump. He just wants to spoil everyone’s Christmas. The children’s story has already been filmed with Jim Carrey in the leading role, among others.
However, the new film adaptation will take a different path than “The Grinch” by Ron Howard. With Peter Candeland at the helm, who has already worked on Disney classics such as “Beauty and the Beast” or “The Return of Jafar”, “The Grinch” will now shine anew in 3D animation.
The French studio Illumination is responsible for the animation, which has already proven a good hand for family-friendly entertainment with the “I – Simply Incorrigible” series. In addition, Benedict Cumerbatch has already been cast as the voice actor for the title role, at least for the English original. The “Sherlock” star had already lent his voice to the dragon Smaug in the “Hobbit” film adaptation.
Incidentally, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is not the only story by the imaginative Dr. Seuss that has made it to the big screen. The stories “A Cat in the Hat” (original: “The Cat in the Hat”), “Horton Hears a Hoot!” (“Horton Hears a Who!”) and “The Lorax” (Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax).
