After the spin-off “Blood Origin”, which will come to Netflix in December 2022, there will be another spin-off from “The Witcher” world. This one is closely linked to the main storyline and is expected between seasons 3 and 4 of the main series.
Just a few weeks ago there was a big damper for “The Witcher” fans: Henry Cavill is dropping out after season 3. And before we see his successor Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Riva in season 4, we can expect a new spin-off series: “The Witcher: Rats”.
Those who know a little about “The Witcher” universe will know immediately what the spin-off will be about: the Rat Gang, a group of young criminals that Ciri (Freya Allan) joins for a while. We will already get to know the gang in “The Witcher” season 3 – in episodes 7 and 8 Ciri will meet the “Rats” for the first time. The gang will also be present in season 4.
“THE WITCHER: RATS” AFTER “THE WITCHER” SEASON 3
According to Redanian Intelligence, a site that is always very well informed on “The Witcher” matters, the spin-off with the working title “Rats” is expected to be released between the third and fourth seasons of the original series. This makes sense, as “Rats” is said to already be in the pre-production phase, has a showrunner on board in the form of “The Witcher” screenwriter Haily Hall and is due to go before the lens in South Africa soon – so all this makes it very likely that “Rats” will come to Netflix as the next part of the fantasy universe after the already shot third season of “The Witcher”.
But the big question, which Redanian Intelligence has not yet been able to answer, is: Will the “Rats” spin-off be an origin story of the troupe, i.e. about their creation before they met Ciri? Or will the episodes deal with the joint adventures of Ciri and the rat gang apart from the main storyline around Geralt and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra)? In the latter case, we should then look forward to a reunion with Freya Allan.
THE CAST OF THE RAT GANG
The cast of the gang members who will appear in the original series in seasons 3 and 4 are expected to be in the spin-off in their respective roles. Christelle Elwin (“Half Bad”) will play Mistle, Fabian McCallum (“The Rings of Power”) will play Kayleigh and Juliette Alexandra (“EastEnders”) will play Reef. Not yet confirmed is the role of cast newcomer Aggy K. Adams (“Oh, Ramona!”), but Redanian Intelligence assumes she will play Iskra.
Still up in the air so far is who will play the final two members of the rat gang in Netflix’s “The Witcher” universe: Aces and Giselher, the leader of the gang.
