The autumn was a great feast for fantasy fans with “House Of The Dragon” and the “Lord Of The Rings” series. But winter also has a lot in store – including the series “Willow” on Disney+, which will start in November.

What better way to escape than into colourful fantasy worlds when it’s grey and cold outside? Fantasy fans can venture on a new adventure from 30 November 2022 – because that’s when the series “Willow” starts on Disney Plus. After Amazon Prime Video dominated the fantasy autumn with “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and Sky and WOW with “Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon”, the Mouse House streaming service may now also have a piece of the fantastic pie in winter with an original material.

And that’s not the end of the year for fans of this genre by a long shot: at Christmas, Netflix will also get in on the act, serving up a four-part “The Witcher” prequel, “Blood Origin”, from 25 December 2022. But first comes “Willow” – and yes, the title might look quite familiar. With the series “Willow”, Disney+ is delivering a late sequel to the cult fantasy film of the same name from 1988, which you can also stream with a subscription.

So many years have passed since the Nelwyn Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) had his first great adventure and saved Princess Elora from the evil Queen Bavmorda. Elora was raised by Willow’s fellow wizards Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) and Sorsha (Joanne Whalley), while Willow returned to his village and came a whole lot closer to his big dream: to become a real wizard.

NEW ADVENTURES FOR THE HERO OF RON HOWARD’S FANTASY CLASSIC

The Willow we meet in the new series has become a skilled magician – and is therefore asked for help by a motley crew. Among them is Kit (Ruby Cruz), the daughter of Sorsha, who wants to save her kidnapped twin brother. So once again Willow has to pack his bags and leave his village for another adventure, which in the end is not just about a simple rescue mission, but about the well-being of the entire kingdom…

While Joanne Whalley returns in her role as Sorsha, Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton are also back as the chaotic brownie duo Rool and Franjean. Newcomers to the cast include Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”), Ellie Bamber (“Nocturnal Animals”), Tony Revolori (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”) and Amer Chadha-Patel (“The Wheel of Time”).
