Last Christmas: Romantic comedy about mopey Kate (“Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke) who is pulled out of her slump in the run-up to Christmas by charming Tom.
Plot and background
Grievously, Kate (Emilia Clarke) wanders through pre-Christmas London. She seems to magically attract chaos and stumbles from one unpleasant situation to the next. She also finds no fulfilment in her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop, rather unmotivated, and her mind is usually elsewhere – much to the displeasure of her boss (Michelle Yeoh).
But then Tom (Henry Golding) runs into her elf feet. After some initial difficulties, he manages to break through Kate’s hard shell and win her heart. But actually it’s all far too good to be true – isn’t it?
The first trailer spreads pre-Christmas feelings.
“Last Christmas” – Backgrounds
Inspired by the song of the same name penned by the late musician George Michael, Emma Thompson (“Late Night”) wrote the screenplay for the romantic comedy “Last Christmas”. Paul Feig, whose last film in this country was “Just a Small Favour”, is directing.
Filming between November 2018 and February 2019 took place on original locations in London and at the West London Film Studios. A month before the film’s release, in October 2019, Emma Thompson plans to publish a book under the same title with essays on the meaning of Christmas.
Speaking of the title: Of course, the legendary song by George Michael can’t be missing! In addition, after the musician’s death, they worked closely with his executors, so the film is said to include other previously unreleased tracks by the “Wham” founder.
The romantic comedy “Last Christmas” opens in time for the Christmas season on 14 November 2019.
“Last Christmas” cast
The male lead is played by Henry Golding (“Crazy Rich Asiens”), who has already worked with Paul Feig in the aforementioned film. He is joined by “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke (“A Whole Six Months”), who returns to romance on the big screen after excursions into other genres. Also in the cast is Golding’s “Crazy Rich” co-star Michelle Yeoh, Liran Nathan (“Black Widow”) and Emma Thompson, who, in addition to writing the script, also takes on the role of Kate’s worried mother Adelia.
