She Said: Film adaptation of the gripping story of two New York Times female reporters who brought down Harvey Weinstein.
Plot and background
When the New York Times published an article by investigative journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey on its front page on 5 October 2017, it caused a huge stir in Hollywood and internationally. For Kantor and Twohey published that none other than Hollywood mogul and six-time Oscar winner Harvey Weinstein has been paying hush money for decades to silence women who accuse him of sexual harassment.
Based on this true story, “She Said” follows journalists Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) in their struggle to break the great silence in Hollywood and expose abuses of power. In their investigative research, the women come up against a web of repression, blackmail and fear. But the journalists do not allow themselves to be intimidated despite personal risks and thus finally give the affected women back their voice and trigger a wave of solidarity internationally. “She Said” honours the invaluable importance of investigative journalism and the tireless search of journalists for the truth.
In the exclusive featurette for the film, director Maria Schrader and the leading actresses emphasise the relevance of the topic, while journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey reminisce about their research at the time:
