Oskar’s Dress

by Tommy

Oskar’s Dress: Comedy starring Florian David Fitz as a divorced family man who questions his understanding of entrenched gender roles through his son’s summer dress.

Plot and background

Ben (Florian David Fitz) has lived alone in his semi-detached house since separating from his ex-wife Mira (Marie Burchard) and their children Oskar (Laurì) and Erna (Ava Petsch). The life of the divorced policeman seems to have gone off the rails until his heavily pregnant ex-wife has to be admitted to hospital prematurely. The children move back in with Ben and he gets a second chance to prove himself as a family man.

But despite great initial motivation, Ben is quickly confronted with a small challenge: his son Oskar prefers to wear a yellow summer dress and also doesn’t want to be called Oskar, but Lili.

“Oscar’s Dress” – background, cast, cinema release

Florian David Fitz (“100 Things”) had the idea for “Oskar’s Dress” as screenwriter and leading actor. Together with director Hüseyin Tabak (“Gipsy Queen”) he is now bringing it to the screen. The common concern was to address the complexity of the transgender issue in an amusing but also real way, without moralising. Child actress Laurì makes her acting debut in the role of Oskar/Lili. Other roles are played by Kida Khodr Ramadan (“4 Blocks”), Marie Burchard (“Hunting Season”), Juan Lo Sasso (“Year of the Tiger”), Burghart Klaußner (“Brecht”), Senta Berger (“Welcome to the Hartmanns”) and young actress Ava Petsch.

“Oskar’s Dress” tells the story of an overwhelmed father who suddenly questions his own ideas about gender roles and diversity with his child’s fundamental search for identity. With humorous and thoughtful overtones, the film addresses the issue of transgender children and their search for acceptance from family members for whom it is important to understand that their child is not “just going through a phase”. The theatrical release of “Oscar’s Dress” is 22 December 2022.
